Grace’s Natural Church Development Team is providing this prayer guide as a way of encouraging and strengthening our prayer life as a congregation. Please keep it handy throughout the month and pray with us on a daily basis.
1. A new month is beginning. Pray for all those celebrating birthdays and anniversaries – that the coming year will be one of blessing.
2. Pray for the many volunteers who give their time and talents to do the things we notice and those things we do not.
3. Thank God for His creation and the beautiful Willamette Valley. Ask for direction how to be a better steward of our community.
4. It’s Independence Day! Thank God for the beautiful county we live in and the freedoms we enjoy. Pray for those who are not yet free.
5. Pray for the safety of those serving in the armed services and their families.
6. Pray for the staff and campers at Camp Lutherwood.
7. Give thanks for your health. Pray for the sick and those who are suffering. Pray for their families.
8. Today, and the 8th of each month, join ELCA churches throughout Oregon and Colorado in praying for our brothers and sisters in the Christian communities in and around Jerusalem, for all those suffering in the Holy Land, for all those affected by protests, oppression and violence, for peace in the Middle East.
9. It’s the day before worship. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide all participating in tomorrow’s service. Ask God to prepare your heart and mind for worship.
10. Give thanks for laborers who harvest our food and that we have food in abundance. Pray for the hungry around and among us.
11. Pray for those in our society who are invisible, the downtrodden and brokenhearted, those living on the edge of poverty. Ask God what you can do to help.
12. Pray for teenagers – especially those living on the fringes of our community. Pray for someone in their lives to care for and love them.
13. Ask God to have His hand in all you do today and to be a blessing to all you meet.
14. Pray for our congregation, for the Holy Spirit to guide us. Pray for our church council to make wise decisions. Pray for Pastors Wendell and Netsie as they shepherd us.
15. Thank God for all those in your life who have nurtured your faith. Ask for boldness to be a witness to others.
16. Pray for those facing difficult decisions. Ask the Spirit to guide them. Pray for our political leaders to make wise choices and decisions.
17. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal all good gifts – joy, friendship, hope, forgiveness – and to share them with others.
18. Pray for law enforcement personnel to carry out their difficult duties with fairness and compassion. Ask God to protect them.
19. As the Kenyan mission trip nears, pray for the Holy Spirit’s presence to be working in and amongst the team and in those they will serve and meet in Kenya.
20. Lift up Jessie Saathoff in prayer today as she prepares to travel to Kenya. Pray for the children she will meet.
21. Lift up Ben Gunther in prayer today as he prepares to travel to Kenya. Pray for the children of the Pangani Children’s Orphanage Pray that they know they are loved by Jesus.
22. Lift up Sean Hixon in prayer today as he prepares to travel to Kenya. Pray for the Kenyan young people. Pray for the Holy Spirit’s guidance in their lives.
23. Lift up Linda Samuels in prayer today as she prepares to travel to Kenya. Ask the Holy Spirit to help her discern those who are sick and how to help them.
24. Lift up Anna Vigeland in prayer today as she prepares to travel to Kenya. Thank God for George Arende and Mary Mshana and the arrangements they have made for the team.
25. Lift up Bob Saathoff in prayer today as he prepares to travel to Kenya. Pray for the men in the Kenyan community. Help them as they provide for their families.
26. Lift up Ron Walsh in prayer today as he prepares to travel to Kenya. Pray for the projects to be undertaken, that they would be completed successfully.
27. Lift up Nita Davies in prayer today as she prepares to travel to Kenya.Pray for the administration and caregivers at the Pangani Children’s Orphanage. Help them minister to the children with love and compassion.
28. Lift up Ursala Bechert in prayer today as she prepares to travel to Kenya. Pray for the Kenyon Ev. Lutheran Church, its pastors and its continued ministry proclaiming the gospel of our risen Savior, Jesus.
29. Lift up Marilyn Walsh in prayer today as she prepares to travel to Kenya. Pray for the women in the Kenyan community as they care for their families.
30. Lift up Stephen Dietrich in prayer today as he prepares to travel to Kenya. Pray for the Holy Spirit to speak through his sermons.
31. On this day before the Kenyan mission team leaves, pray for safety, for courage and strength, for calm and peace, and for God’s love and graciousness to shine through each of them.
