75th Anniversary | ||||
By Carolyn Warloe This month Grace Lutheran Church will celebrate its 75th Anniversary with a banquet March 11th and special services on March 12th. Celebratory events will continue throughout the year. The Foundation has supported the 75th Anniversary by providing $1,500 in funds for various projects including Anniversary Booklets, the banner over the doors into the Church, and the History Boards. Most importantly, the Foundation has also provided $100,000 in matching funds for the “Giving It Forward Initiative” to pay off the mortgage. The “Giving It Forward Initiative” continues toward its goal of paying off the mortgage having already reduced the mortgage by more than $209,000. This year Grace Lutheran Church celebrates 75 years of worship and service in the Corvallis community. The Foundation “should encourage bequests and gifts which benefit Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church and which further its religious and benevolent purposes” according to its mission statement. Grace Lutheran Church’s mission statement says “we will follow Christ into our community manifesting with caring hearts and helping hands the good news of the Kingdom of God.” For 22 years the Foundation has supported the mission of Grace Lutheran Church with financial assistance. It is the Foundation’s mission to continue to provide this support in the future. When someone donates to the Foundation, they are “Giving it Forward” because they are assuring that programs and things that they value at Grace will continue to thrive. Donations of $10,000 or more may create a fund for a purpose close to their hearts if one does not exist, or they may add their funds to an existing fund. The Foundation manages these gifts according to the directions of the donor. Funds can be endowed or un-endowed according to the wishes of the donor. Endowed funds, like the Kuehn Fund for choir music, only allow the earnings to be spent and the principal must be maintained. The Schultz Family Youth Fund is an example of an un-endowed fund and may be spent in its entirety. Donations of any size may be designated by the donor to an existing fund of their choice. We are always glad to explain the parameters of each fund. Continued on next page... |
