By Anne Orwick Research shows that children who get off to a good start in Kindergarten maintain their advantage throughout their schooling. So meeting the learning goals in Kindergarten is critical. The preschool experience lays the foundation for success in Kindergarten. Today's Kindergarten is very different than experienced by the childrens' parents just a generation ago. Learning goals in Kindergarten include reading, writing and solving math problems. It is now assumed that 5 year-olds are ready to learn and already know their shapes, colors and how to function in a group setting. All of these things are learned in preschool. Here at Grace we are fortunate to have Sandcastle Preschool, a nonprofit 501(c)3 preschool, one of the best in the Corvallis area. For the second year, in 2016-2107 Grace Lutheran Church Foundation is supporting two fulltime scholarships to allow families from low income situations to attend Sandcastle Preschool. In addition, Grace members are invited to donate money to a scholarship fund as well. You may make a contribution along with your regular offering, place it in the offering plate, or turn your contribution into the office. Be sure you designate that your gift is for the Sandcastle Scholarship Fund.
