There are many ways to support the church and play a role in its future. Beyond the usual gifts of cash and bequests in wills, here are some examples of other opportunities: Bank Accounts – You might specify that they are “payable on death” (POD) to the church. You retain total control over the account during your life. The property passes to the church at your death without probate. Stocks and Bonds – You might be entitled to a tax deduction if you give these securities to the church during your lifetime. Life Insurance – Consider naming the church as a beneficiary for part or all of any insurance policy. Or, consider transferring the ownership of life insurance you no longer need to the church. The cash value, when given, plus the annual premium, can qualify for a federal income tax deduction. Retirement Accounts – You may want to name the church as a beneficiary of your individual retirement account or other retirement funds, in the event that you or other family members die before receiving all of the funds. Real Estate – Consider the gift of vacant land, a condominium, commercial property, home, farm, vacation home, or other types of real estate. You might be entitled to a tax deduction for the fair market value of the property at the time the gift is made.
