What Does Your Faith Inspire?

Adapted by Pastor Wendell Hendershott

Do you have a passion for some aspect of the mission of Grace Lutheran Church? By planning ahead and setting that plan down in writing, you may share that passion with others who may in turn see ways in which they can share their passions for ministry as well. It doesn’t matter if you have a little or a lot of money, gifts of all sizes through wills and trusts can support the ministries and missions that excite you while at the same time providing for yourself and your family.

Grace Foundation is in touch with planning professionals who work through the Synod and Churchwide units of our church to assist you as you consider the needs and desires of your own planning process. They are equipped to help you think through the ways you want to care for your loved ones and the ministries that you love. They can also help you select the best tools for you to use in your situation to maximize your resources.

Here are some of the ways to share your faith-inspired passions:

These might be made with any amount of assets:

  • Bequest: a gift made through a will or a trust.
  • Outright Gift: a gift made to make an impact on ministry and mission today. It might be a gift of cash, appreciated securities, or real estate.
  • Donor-Directed Distribution Agreements: a contractual arrangement that provides flexibility on how your gifts are named and where they are distributed. Maximum number of beneficiaries is ten.

These tools generally require larger amounts of assets:

  • Charitable Gift Annuity: an irrevocable gift that provides payments throughout your life; then the remaining amount benefits ministry.
  • Donor Advised Funds: a gift that allows distribution of gifts to be shared with several ministries.
  • Memorial Endowment Funds: established with an outright gift or through other means in your name or in memory of a loved one to provide perpetual support for ministry.
  • Charitable Remainder Trust: a gift that provides a stream of income for you for a period of years or for life, then the remainder benefits ministry.

Foundation
Helps Youth

by Pastor Wendell Hendershott

Grace Foundation has awarded $6,000 in matching grant to the Grace Lutheran High School Youth to attend the 2012 ELCA Youth Gathering in New Orleans. The Foundation will match up to that amount as they make their way to this event. One of the reasons that the Foundation is supporting our youth is that many of us know that these events in the formative years of a student’s life can be a life changing experience. Nearly 40,000 high school youth will gather in New Orleans this July (18-22) to learn about Christ and the good news of his message for the world.

More than just a vacation, our youth will engage in worship, Bible study, educational experiences and fellowship events, as they engage with other people their same age from across the country and around the world. The centerpiece of this event is a New Orleans wide series of service projects that will help the citizens of this city continue their efforts to renew their city after Hurricane Katrina of 2005, the costliest disaster in US history. In addition, the youth will encounter first-hand the culture and history of this exciting city.

God loves a cheerful giver. 1 Corinthians 9. 7

“Don’t wait until you feel like giving to give; give until you feel like it.” Ermin K. Lunder

Mission Investment Fund of the ELCA

by Pastor Wendell Hendershott

Grace Foundation has most of its assets invested in the ELCA Foundation Fund Pooled Trust, which helps us to further our goal of doing mission in and through our church. You may not know that there are ways for individuals to do that as well.

The ELCA Mission Investment Fund is a vehicle that individuals may use to invest their assets for the mission of the church. The easiest way to find their webpage is just to Google “ELCA Mission Investment Fund.” There are a variety of opportunities on their website to use your assets to support mission and the work of the gospel while at the same time providing a return on your investments.
