The Grace Lutheran Church Foundation hosted The Rev. Keith Nelson, Gift Planning Director for the ELCA Foundation, on Sunday, October 9, 2011. Pastor Nelson delivered the sermon at both services, led a Bible study on giving, and presented a seminar entitled "Leaving a Legacy" following a light lunch in Ronnenkamp Hall. Thirty persons attended the luncheon and seminar, including Oregon ELCA Synod Mission Gift Developers Bonny Groshong and Tonia Lindquist. The ELCA Foundation exists to strengthen the financial capacities of ELCA ministries, congregations, synods, agencies and institutions. This goal is accomplished by:
In the seminar, Pastor Nelson explained that the ELCA Foundation can receive many types of gifts, including cash, life insurance, qualified retirement plans, real estate, and securities. Gifting options include bequests, charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts, donor advised funds, donor-directed distribution agreements, and memorial endowment funds. Among the resources available to Grace Lutheran Church members and friends free of charge are estate planning workbooks and information sheets. Two resources that will be of interest to many are the "Will and Trust" and "Important Notes About My Estate" workbooks.
