In late 2021, the Foundation received two donations it was unable to accept, so now seems like a good time to explain how the Foundation operates and why it can't always accept gifts. Money given to the Foundation is placed in one of the Foundation's funds. Donors can tell the Foundation in general terms how they would like their gifts to be used by asking the Foundation to place their gifts in an existing fund with a coinciding purpose. If you want to support the purchase of music for the choir, you would ask to have your gift placed in the Kuehn Fund. However, if you donate to this fund, money is not disbursed until a request is received and approved for a specific project. To facilitate using gifts in the manner donors wish, the Foundation has established a variety of funds with stated purposes. Most of the named funds result from a donor giving the Foundation a minimum donation of $10,000, with suggested instructions about how to use the funds. The Schultz Family Youth Fund is a result of one of these gifts. Edna Schultz requested that her donation be used for Grace's youth. Anyone wishing to support the youth of Grace may donate to the Foundation and ask to have their gift added to the Schultz Fund. We have 13 named funds for various purposes that can be added to by anyone who wishes to support their purpose. A list of these funds and their purposes is available on the Foundation website. The first recent potential donation that was not accepted was because there was no existing fund for the donor's intended purpose. The Foundation Board determined that a donation that was designated to support church maintenance should be redirected to the Church's property fund. That was accomplished with the donor's approval. The second unacceptable gift was a memorial donation where the donor wanted the gift to go to another specific nonprofit. The Foundation is unable to forward donations. The Foundation maintains both endowed and non-endowed funds and disperses available funds in the manner the donors requested. If you have questions about how to donate or request funds, check out the Foundation website. |
