We are passing through an extraordinary portal of change. Our pastors of more than a decade are retiring, and we have already spent the better part of a year in separation from each other because of the novel corona virus pandemic. None of us have ever experienced this challenge and we find ourselves learning how to cope in totally new ways almost on a daily basis. The information sphere and communication environment are fraught with questions, contradictions and challenges, and each of us are seeking whatever stability we can muster. But one thing is true and immutable. We have each other and we are bound to each other by and through God's love for each of us individually, and for this Church collectively. We have given to us a clear understanding of who we are, from whence we come, to where we are going, and what is expected of us while we are here. We have, in a sense, dedicated our lives to each other, and we have cast our lot together. We are the Church. And we have the power of God's love in our hands to do with as we choose. This is our time, and this is our fortune. We do have plentiful resources of time, talent and gifts, and our portion is far more than most people on the planet. As we move forward in great challenges to discover who a next pastor will be, we are faced with an unexpected opportunity to redefine for ourselves and those who follow in our steps what this Church and our programs will look like, and what visions we seek to fulfill. Our leaders are very busy discussing, praying, arguing, and sharing in dialogue every and all aspects of our congregational life together. These are very trying times, but these are also times of great possibilities. Change is afoot. Dialogue is needed. Ideas are welcome. We may not have this chance again for a very long time. Carpé Diem, as they say. Seize the day, for this is the day the Lord has given us. Let us rejoice, and be glad in it. The Grace Foundation is dedicated to supporting the mission of programs of this congregation in as broad and as meaningful a manner as we can. But remember clearly that this gift of possibilities and support exists because we, and those many who preceded us, included generously in our and their support of the Foundation. That is indeed, extraordinary. This vehicle of support started so many years ago is a grand means for each of us to participate in the future visions and plans of this congregation. It takes a congregation to raise a church. Please remember the Grace Foundation in your support of these efforts. Now, go wash your hands.

Pastor Wendell
The Foundation would like to express our appreciation for the years of Wendell's service on the Foundation Board. Wendell’s comments and questions about requests to the Foundation were always insightful and helpful. He is also known for suggesting that good causes in the community might ask for funds. One of these requests came from the South Corvallis Food Bank who desperately needed a new commercial refrigerator. Wendell - Thank you for your participation in the Foundation and for your generous spirit. We hope you and Netsie enjoy your retirement. |
