This Week at Grace

This Week at Grace

Our congregation is partnering with the friends, co-workers and families of Dana and Joel Howe to offer them aid and support, as their five year old daughter, Eila, has begun chemotheraphy for the 3rd time in her short life to fight cancer infecting her one, remaining kidney.  We ask you to pray for their whole family, including big sister, Annikka.  If interested in helping in other ways, look below in the endnotes for details.[i]

Synod Assembly Offering from Grace Lutheran exceeded $275.00 Two offerings were taken at Assembly. The total offerings were over $6,000 and will be split 50-50 with half going to Palestinian Lutherans at Tent of Nations and half going to a Central Oregon area food bank.

[i] Assisting the Howe Family: Anita Upenieks is now coordinating Friday meals from our congregation for the Howes through the end of June.  If interested in providing a meal, please call Anita at 541-752-5812 or email her at aupenieks@comcast.net

 

Howe’s friend, Steph Swensen, has compiled the list below of other suggested ways to help:

  1. Gas (or Visa-type giftcards)
  2. Restaurant giftcards — ones that do take-out
  3. Starbucks giftcards (there is a Starbucks in the lobby of the hospital)
  4. Donations for massage giftcards for Dana
  5. Donations for a house cleaner
  6. Playdates for Annikka

**I’m happy to help arrange playdates and deliver and/or purchase giftcards.  You are more than welcome to mail me or drop off a check.  I have heaps of people who can help me purchase those giftcards — no problem at all.

[ii] Truly Present is a book By Dr. Lisa Dahill, presently Assistant Professor of Worship and Christian Spirituality at Trinity Lutheran Seminary, Columbus Ohio. Dr. Dahill has just accepted a faculty position at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks. We are using her book as our handbook to awaken us to holiness of everyday life, and deeper intimacy with God in worship. You won’t have to buy the book, but if you would like to, contact pastor Wendell

Thanks to all who helped with the Youth Fund raiser last Saturday as well as those who participated in the Silent auction by donating and purchasing items! The total raised through fund raising efforts so far has brought them ¾ of the way toward their goal!
